12 Genius Home Organizing Ideas

How to organize your house

Want to get organized in 2025 with home organizing ideas that are quick, easy, and effective? Here’s how to maximize space, create storage solutions, and avoid common organizing pitfalls.

Creating Storage Solutions

To get organized for 2025, it’s important to see where to start, what to buy, and what not to waste time with. Avoid wasting time worrying about if food looks pretty in cabinets or in the pantry. Maximize the space and get as much storage as possible. Take a look around the kitchen and just look at it differently to see how to carve out more food storage, starting in a pantry.

Utilizing Closet Space

If there is a closet that’s really being underutilized, or even a cabinet that’s kind of filled with junk, turn it into a Costco corner. Transform it with an old shelf from the garage into a Costco corner. The truth is that buying in bulk makes sense if there is a good sale on something that is used all the time, so stock up. Having a place for it to go when it doesn’t fit in the pantry means it’s not clutter. Look around the house for a wasted cabinet or a wasted closet that is storing things that are not being used and not loved. Declutter it and make a Costco Corner today.

Door and Cabinet Storage

One of the best ways to create more storage is turning a door into storage with an over-the-door storage rack. This is perfect to make a pantry, perfect for any storage that is needed. If there is a door, it can be turned into storage in literally minutes. The inside of cabinet doors can also be used for more storage, so add 3M strips for hooks for measuring cups or clips for different sauces or little drawer dividers with 3M strips, and store actual food right inside the cabinet door. Maximize the storage that is available.

Optimizing Cabinet Space

Maximize the storage with can risers or can organizers and those tiered shelves, even the ones from the dollar store, mean that it is possible to get double the food in the existing cabinet. One of the best ways to really maximize space is using big baskets. Not only is it possible to fit a lot more and go higher with a basket, but by taking things out of the box, the space can be tripled and the stuff in the back can be accessed this way. Just slide the basket out so food isn’t getting lost and forgotten about at the back of the cabinet.

Snack Organization

If there are kids, or there is a love for snacks, creating a snack drawer or a snack cabinet is a great idea because it saves time every single day. It just makes making a lunch or grabbing a snack really fast and easy. Take things out of boxes to triple the storage and create a little snack station or lunch-making station in the house.

Freezer Organization

Don’t forget about the freezer. Tall, skinny bins are great for any type of freezer because it consolidates and contains different food, takes advantage of the vertical space, and it keeps it tidy all the time.

Home Organization

Don’t waste time organizing those low-traffic areas that aren’t going to make a big difference first, like under the kitchen sink, the linen closet, or a junk drawer. Tackle those high-traffic areas. The entrance way is the perfect place to start because it’s the first thing seen when entering the home, and when it’s organized, it stops the mess at the door. An entrance way needs love, and with lots of coats and shoes and boots, it can easily become cluttered. Use some inexpensive hooks, maybe a coat tree, and definitely shoe storage to transform this on a budget.

A home is needed for all the wet coats and wet boots and muddy stuff right in the entrance way. It’s also important to make space if you always forget to take the reusable shopping bags back to the car; make a home for those so they’re not just clutter in the Landing Way. Everything needs a home, like keys, glasses, and wallet. The next thing needed is a command center because mail is a huge issue. It doesn’t have to be fancy. This is just quick file so papers and bills that need to be paid and things that need to be filed can be dropped in so it’s not a pile on the counter.

One of the biggest sources of clutter is memory items. When coming in, there are report cards or artwork or something special that someone has sent, and it ends up in a pile. It is helpful to have a memory bin for each family member. Have a bin in the entrance way where special things can be put, and then every now and then go through, take everything out, and sort and organize it, giving a memory dumping Zone in the entrance way or in the kitchen to definitely stop the Clutter. Put a recycling bin right in the entrance way so when there’s all the junk mail and the Flyers and the stuff that isn’t wanted, the envelopes can immediately just put it in the recycling so it doesn’t end up on the counter.

Clutter Control and Organization

Don’t put too much pressure and really focus on having it look minimal all the time. Even minimalists have stuff, and places for that stuff need to be available. Big clutter catchers are helpful all throughout the house, whether it’s for toys or dog toys or blankets and pillows – all the stuff that is in the house. Baskets are great clutter catchers, especially on the counter, for all of the papers you want to deal with or just stuff that you got to put away later. This is nice and tall and thin; it doesn’t take up a lot of space, but it catches all the Clutter. Declutter cleaning supplies and things that aren’t being used, and then just have bins for the things that are being left out on the counter; it’s like random clutter catching space, and it is amazing for keeping everything tidier.

Sometimes piles and messes can actually be a good thing. It’s really showing where home organization is lacking. This stuff probably doesn’t have a home, so why not create one where stuff is naturally put down? If you pile papers here, have a little paper system. If you have just random junk, create another junk drawer really close by. All of those clothes that have been worn, but maybe they’re not dirty enough to wash yet, have some hooks. Give this stuff a place to go. Homeless clutter is telling exactly the type of organization that is needed.

Investing in Quality Organizing Tools

It is not a good idea to waste time with dollar store or cheap hacks for organization. Buying a good quality container for stuff is definitely a money-saving option. These will last a long time. If a plastic option is preferred and a budget is in mind, unlike the dollar store stuff, these are thick, good quality plastic that will last. They are great for toys, they come in a ton of different sizes, and it’s not going to break the bank, but they will not have to be replaced. Dollar Store containers are still great for those areas that aren’t high traffic or drawer dividers, those are good quality for the price. When it comes to everyday organizing bins, it’s better to use cereal boxes or Amazon boxes instead of spending money on the Dollar Tree stuff. It’s not going to last; it’s wasting money, and it’s going to break and end up in the trash. Save money, save up for the good stuff, and in the meantime, just use whatever you can find.

If you really want to get organized and you need to be motivated to make it happen, there is a boot camp that walks through every different space in the home. This boot camp is designed to motivate you to organize your house. By the end of the 30 days, your house will be organized.
