DIY Home Office Makeover: Transform Your Workspace

How to improve your home office

Eager to elevate your home office experience and boost your productivity? Discover how to create a moody office with a luxe feel, incorporating affordable decor and smart design choices for a functional and stylish workspace.

Let’s transform the space. Information about where everything is from will be shared, so be sure to ask about anything not mentioned. Most items are from HomeGoods or TJ Max, or may already be at home.

Choosing a Color Scheme

The office was previously very bright. The goal was to create a moody office. There was consideration of olive green or black. Black was selected because it felt easier to work around that color. The paint used was Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black. It’s a matte black recommended by a sales rep. It is available at Sherwin-Williams store. You may be able to get it from Lowe’s.

Lighting and Furniture

The standard ceiling fan was replaced with a nice light fixture from Wayfair. Professionals were hired for the installation. A bookshelf from Target was chosen. The bookshelf is a viral item. Since the office lacked built-in shelves, this was a suitable solution. This option keeps things affordable. It sells out quickly. You can purchase the one with cabinets underneath or one with shelves completely down. An entryway table will be placed in front of the desk. This table has a 3-piece set and is easy to assemble. A couch was considered, but there isn’t much traffic in the office. The table is perfect because a chair and extra seating can be added underneath.

Decor and Rug

A rug was needed for the office. A rug from Wayfair was selected. This rug goes well with the curtains and prints. The rug is a 5×7 from Wayfair and cost about $30. A canvas picture from an old house was used. The trim around it did not match the office so the border was spray painted. Painting tape was used to protect the canvas. Rustoleum or Krylon matte black spray paint was used. Frames from Target were also spray painted.

Prints are added to the frames. Prints were found on Etsy by searching for specific terms. The downloads usually cost about $7 to $14. They were printed out at FedEx or Office Depot. The frames are from Target.

Accessorizing the Space

Books from Amazon and vases from Hobby Lobby were used for decor. Decor snippets on Instagram inspired the use of the books. A lamp was added, plus a Louis Vuitton book. A ceramic decorative bowl from Target was used, along with beaded ropes from at home. Olive branches were switched out for other plants because they are used in every room.

Final Touches and Lighting

I chose vibrant moss from Hobby Lobby to beautifully fill the plant pot! Adding a light truly elevates the space, creating a charmingly moody atmosphere during the night. It’s such a delightful touch!

In summary, the home office transformation involved painting the walls black, adding new lighting and furniture, and incorporating personal touches with decor and accessories. The result is a moody, luxe space perfect for both work and creativity.
